From a local idea to a growing UK-wide movement
Sometimes, the biggest things start with a simple idea.
Back in 2020, the Orange Button Scheme began with a vision from the Suicide Prevention Lead at Lancashire and South Cumbria Integrated Care Board (ICB). They wanted to create a simple, recognisable way for people to show they were trained to listen and support someone experiencing mental health difficulties or suicidal thoughts.
That idea was brought to Creativeworld, and we’ve been proud to help bring it to life ever since.
Fast forward to today, and the scheme has grown far beyond its original beginnings.
From its roots in Lancashire and South Cumbria, the Orange Button Scheme has been adopted by organisations and local authorities across the UK, including North and West Northamptonshire, Somerset, Telford & Wrekin, Shropshire and Staffordshire.
Through creative campaigns, engaging resources, promotional materials and ongoing communications, we’ve supported the scheme as it reaches new communities and helps more people recognise where they can find a listening ear.
At its heart, the Orange Button is about making conversations around suicide prevention feel more approachable and helping people feel more confident about reaching out for support. It’s a small but powerful way to help connect people with someone who is ready to listen.
Seeing the scheme grow from an initial idea into something being embraced by so many regions is genuinely amazing. It’s a reminder of what can happen when a strong idea is backed by passionate people, collaboration and the right communications.
So, what’s next?
Our hope is to see the Orange Button Scheme continue to grow, with national adoption the next big ambition. There’s still work to do, but we’re excited to see where this journey leads and how many more communities could benefit.
A huge thank you to everyone involved in making the Orange Button Scheme what it is today. We’re proud to be part of its story and can’t wait to see what the next chapter brings.
🧡 One idea. More conversations. More communities. A growing movement.
